We know freight forwarding and exporting and importing can be challenging and complex.

Below we have listed a few of the common areas that are brought up so please have a look and if you still require further details, then get in touch and we will answer your queries

The difference between actual weight and volumetric weight.

We understand the Volumetric weight can be a confusing issue to grasp at times. We want to break it down for you to make it as clear as possible

The cost of transporting a shipment is charged by either the Actual Weight or Volumetric Weight

What is Actual weight?

Actual weight also known as Dead weight, is exactly what it means; the weight of the package.

When we have received your items, our Warehouse team will work out the weight of all the items individually, as well as a combined weight which may include pallets, depending on the size of your shipment. The palletised items will be weighed as one piece

Please note, the actual weights can vary from the weight your supplier provides as some weights are calculated in gross as well as many suppliers only providing the weight of the items without any packaging, rather than the items within the packaging and boxes etc.

What is Volumetric weight?

Volumetric weight is all to do with the amount of space an object occupies on an aircraft.

The volumetric weight of a shipment is a calculation that reflects the density of a package. A less dense item will usually occupy more volume in comparison to its actual weight.

We calculate Volumetric weight for each items individually as well as combined or if we receive them on a pallet, we will measure the pallet to ascertain its volume as well as weight.

What next?

Once the Dead weight and Volumetric weight has been calculated, the two values are then compared to establish which is greater, the higher weight of the two is then used to calculate the shipment cost, also known as CHARGEABLE WEIGHT
